“Everyone speaks Swedish, but that Swedish isn't enough for the job”
How the City of Gothenburg trains workplace language with AI
This spring, cleaning staff and student assistants in the City of Gothenburg trained workplace Swedish with AI as part of Språklyftet. Lena Thornéus at Arbvux tells AI Sweden what it delivered, what was hard and what it takes to make it last.
RegisterMany employees know their job but lack the words to talk about it: ordering supplies, raising something at a staff meeting or explaining to a parent what happened. There is rarely time to practise. Cleaning staff often work alone, and student assistants are with the pupils all day.
In Språklyftet, teacher-led lessons, the workplace and conversation practice with AI have gone hand in hand. Participants could practise as many times as they needed, even at home. They say they dare to speak more, take more space in meetings and have found words for their profession. Teachers and managers see the same development.
About the webinar
AI Sweden hands the stage to the City of Gothenburg and takes the role of curious interviewer. Lena Thornéus explains how Språklyftet is set up, what participants, teachers and managers say in the evaluations and what the city takes forward. Mathias Andreasson from Fictive Reality joins to answer questions about the technology.
What you will take away
- What the evaluations show, from participants, teachers and managers.
- Why the AI training worked best together with the teacher, not instead of the teacher.
- What was hard, and what managers need to do for the language to be used at work.
